Student Council Association

Laburnum’s Student Council Association (SCA) is established to promote school spirit among the student body and staff. It also encourages participation in service projects that benefit our school and community. The SCA is comprised of students in grades 2 – 5 who serve as Classroom Representatives and members of the Executive Council. The Executive Council consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Members of the Executive Council must develop a campaign and present a speech to their peers who vote for the best candidate. Students meet regularly with a SCA teacher representative to plan for projects and discuss ideas.

Safety Patrol

Laburnum’s Safety Patrol is established to ensure safe and orderly behavior in the hallways during arrival and dismissal. Safety Patrol officers are fifth grade students who are identified through a rigorous application process. These students serve as role models for younger children.

The Lion’s Den

The Lion’s Den is a grant funded afterschool remediation and enrichment program housed at Laburnum. Students are selected based on teacher recommendation and an identified need. They participate in literacy, math, and various enrichment activities during the after school program. If you have any questions about the program, please reach out the Program Coordinator, Rafer Giles, ragiles@henrico.k12.va.us.

Morning Clubs

Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of morning clubs through the course of the school year. Some of the clubs we’ve hosted during the 2021- 2022 school year include: Running Club, Coding & Robotics Club, Hair Club, Card Club, Math Club, and Bracelet Club. Each club is facilitated by a Laburnum staff member and runs from 7:40 – 8:00.
