Greetings Laburnum Families,
It is an exciting time as we gear up to welcome students back to school for the 2022 – 2023 school year! We made it through a year complete with twists and turns. Despite a few bumps and bruises, we made it out on top with many things to celebrate. As a reminder, school will have a pre-Labor day start this year. The first day of school for the 2022 – 23 school year will be August 29, 2022. Our doors open to welcome our new and returning Laburnum Lions at 7:20 AM. We cannot wait to be reunited with everyone to kick off another amazing year!
Our theme this year is “Learning is A Journey”. We have been on quite a journey over the course of the last two years. This year’s theme honors that journey and sets the tone for our upcoming journey towards continued growth, learning, and success. The theme also recognizes that each student’s journey looks different and it is our goal as educators to ensure we are equipping our students with the tools to be successful as they walk their paths to success.
My personal journey into education began as a young girl growing up in Bronx, New York, where I began to develop my passion for helping others. Hampton University was the next stop on that journey where I earned my Bachelors of Arts in Political Science. I earned my Masters in Teaching from Trinity University located in our nation’s capital, Washington D.C. while working as a special education teacher. Eventually my path led me to Chesterfield, Virginia where I continued to teach special education and ultimately earned a Post Master’s Certification in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University.
In addition to being a classroom teacher, I’ve served as a program coordinator for a special education program, assistant principal, and principal for Chesterfield County Public Schools. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of my career and look forward to sharing this new chapter with the Laburnum community.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my children, ages 7 and 13, as well as my husband. We like to enjoy the simple things in life such as spending time outside and playing board games. My hobbies include reading, working out, and relaxing with family and friends.
I believe that it takes a village to raise a child and I thank you for allowing me a to be a part of the Laburnum village. Please know that my door is always open and I encourage you to reach out to me to share your ideas, thoughts, or concerns. We are in this together to support our students in every aspect of their development.
Yours in Education,
